Sadly, this has been a common theme amongst many of my clients lately.
I’ve witnessed sadness, anger, frustration, insecurity...
I’ve watched friendships be torn apart and marriages end...
Why?
Because so many people are too prideful to apologize.
You read that right... TOO PRIDEFUL!
I’m going to just lay it all out there today...
EVERYONE is entitled to their own feelings and emotions.
Telling someone that they “shouldn’t be” upset, annoyed, hurt, etc... is not only inappropriate it is extremely disrespectful.
If YOUR actions or words have caused a negative impact on someone else, WHETHER INTENDED OR NOT, and that person expresses that to you, an apology is necessary.
“I am sorry that what I I did/said upset you (ACCOUNTABILITY for how your words/actions affect others), my intention was never to hurt you.”
Saying this, ACKNOWLEDGES the other persons feelings and allows them to feel HEARD.
99% of the time, that is all we need.
Humbleness will always be more satisfying in the end.
